Concept of PureUrban
Imagine a world without music, frightening prospect right? Without new technology, much, if not all of the digitised beats we hear today would be flights of fancy.
With this thought in mind, PSP presents Pure Urban, an online project created to give an audio survey and brief overview of a selection of the hottest scenes in urban, electronic music across Europe. Want to know about the underground hip hop scene in the Benelux countries or drum and bass in Italy? Just click on the relevant button and your information is literally ‘flagged’ up.
So what is urban music? Used in the context of this site, our definition of urban is the music created and championed by the city-dwelling masses. It’s not simply hip hop and R&B, as in each territory it takes on a new form. It’s not a colour or a race, more a shared philosophy of cutting edge musical cool.
Urban music pushes the boundaries. Its development alongside new technologies helps define the ‘PSP generation’. There’s nothing better than having the ability to download your own tracks while playing your game.
This microsite involves the user in the technological revolution that they have helped create. As of writing, all the featured artists are unsigned. That is to say, the major labels have yet to wake up to the heat that these artists have created on the street. Catch the future of urban music here first.
